SPLASHING OUT CANCER The weekend was a huge success and a great experience for the boys. On Friday, we had the opportunity to spend 2 hours in the water with Eric Shanteau - cancer survivor, 2008 Olympian, World & American Record Holder. Then, we had dinner and got to hear him speak about his battle with cancer and chasing his Olympic dream. There was also an auction for several autographed shirts and caps and posters donated from Olympians including Michael Phelps, Aaron Peirsol, Janet Evans and Jason Lezak. The items brought in almost $900 on Friday evening. On Saturday, the boys participated in the Splashing Out Cancer Invitational. Eric handed out medals to the top 8 finishers in each event, signed autographs, took pictures and addressed the crowd. We also auctioned off the suit he wore to win US Nationals last year - it went for $500!!! All totaled, I think we will be able to donate over $2000 to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from the event. We will hopefully be able to be a part of a similar event next year. The boys performed well at the meet for the most part. We had some huge swims out of a few guys. Daniel Senn qualified for State in the 100 Fly. We knew he was going to get it sometime because he has been so close and he finally got it. He is also about 1 second away from making the 200 IM qualifying time for State. Brett Taylor or Tuna as he is called dropped 15 seconds in his 500 free at the meet - another incredible drop and his first taste of hardware (8th place overall). Those were probably the 2 best swims we had, but there were many other best times on the day. In the 200 free, Andrew Workman, Wyatt Harness and Noah Scott all had season best times. Yutes and Corey both had bests in the IM. Both Masons and Ups had bests in the 50. Scott Brand placed 4th in diving. Garrett, T-Strong, Andrew Carson and Nick Stone all had bests in the 100 free. Andrew Workman and Noah Scott had best times in the 500 besides Tuna. Celo and Matt Mc both had bests in the back. And our breaststrokers all dropped time - Andrew Smith, Ups, AJ and Manny. Our 400 Free Relay is now less than a second away from qualifying for State - we will hopefully get that time this week. Thanks to everyone who was able to make this a great event!!!
