STATE MEET RE-CAP

G-Bo, Senn & T-Strong all earn individual All - State honors

State was an adventurous weekend with a very rough start, but the boys bounced back well and we had some great performances.  Our 200 Medley went into the meet seeded 1st, but an early exchange was called and well, there isn’t much else to say.  I was a bit worried because it took some wind out of our sails, but we didnt have anyone in the 200 Free or 200 IM so it gave us a chance to re-group, collect ourselves, and get ready for the rest of prelims.  Whitey rocked out a lifetime best in the 50 free, followed by solid swims by AJ, Mason Brown and Daniel Senn in the fly.  Senn made top 16 and finished 10th overall with a lifetime best.  He was also the fastest flyer out of Springfield - not a big surprise, but he hadn’t won the fly event all season long when a certain guy from Glendale was swimming it.  Garrett then followed with a great swim in the 100 to give him a consolation swim in finals.  Andrew Workman dropped another few tenths in the 500 free and had a great experience at the meet.  The 200 Free Relay qualified bottom 8.  I think the guys were a little tentative on the exchanges after the Medley Relay mishap, but they did well.  The backstokes went well.  T-Strong qualified 16th by .07 to make his first State consolation final.  He placed 15th overall in the event.  Garrett placed 4th overall.  A great job for a kid who just learned to swim 3 years ago and never really was much more than a 3 month high school swimmer.  The breaststrokes went well, all 3 guys stayed under the State cut.  The 400 Free Relay matched our season best time without our fastest guy on it.  Daniel, Mason Brown, Taylor Strong and Whitey went a 3:23 and almost made it back for Finals.  Scott Brand, our lone diver did a great job, he had his best five dives of the season and finished 22nd overall.  Our team finish was 23rd, but if you add the 30 points from the Medley it put us up at 11th place.  I can find a couple other points in there too to put us in the top 10 which is where we like to be at this meet.  It doesn’t always go your way, but the guys showed their resolve and had a great last meet of the season.  I was very proud of the job they did.  I think next year we will be right back in the hunt in the Medley and we will have several of the younger guys step up to score individual points.
